KANGAR: The Barisan Nasional (BN) in the state will redouble its efforts to defend the seats it won while recapturing the areas it lost in the 14th General Election (GE14).
State BN chairman, Datuk Seri Azlan Man said, he is confident that BN will win as many seats as possible and succeed in forming a government in the state.
He said, BN has a chance to maintain victory this time and contribute to the increase of new voter support for the party.
“Areas where BN lost before, such as the Indera Kayangan State Legislative Assembly (DUN), also showed positive development among voters, especially involving the Chinese community,” he said when met by reporters during a walkabout session in Kuala Perlis town here today.
Yesterday, Utusan Malaysia reported the prediction of Independent candidate for Padang Besar Parliament and Titi Tinggi State Assembly, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin that BN will lose for the first time in the state’s history in GE15.
Zahidi said, BN is expected to lose at least nine state assembly seats including the Arau Parliament in addition to Padang Besar where the chances are still balanced.
In the meantime, Azlan who is also Menteri Besar said, this time, BN is optimistic about the target to maintain their victory in the 10 state assembly constituencies in Perlis.
“We are trying to increase the number of state assembly seats that were lost before such as Sena, Kuala Perlis, Indera Kayangan and Guar Sanji based on the positive momentum among voters at the moment,” he said.
He added that voters nowadays are also more inclined to look at the element of stability since they have had the experience of being governed under a failed government for 22 months.
“The people no longer want to face the same situation because that situation is detrimental to the state and the country,” he said. – MESSENGER
