GE15: No EC data leakage – Hamzah

ARAU – The Ministry of Home Affairs has not received any police report regarding the alleged leak of personal information of 800,000 voters whose data is said to be owned by the Election Commission (SPR).

Its minister, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said, an investigation will only be made after a police report has been made by any party.

According to him, if the leaked personal information contains a phone number then it is not from SPR data.

“If there is a phone number, it means that it is not the SPR that has it. If the SPR only gives the name and ID number.

“That’s not right (leakage of personal data), there must be people who cheat just to make a profit.

“When there is a police report we will investigate. At the moment there has been no official (report) of receiving things like this,” he told reporters after the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Tour program with Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin on Saturday.

He said this when asked to comment on the alleged leak of personal data for the second time when the GE15 campaign entered its second week.

The alleged leaked personal data contained voter information referring to the EC database involving 800,000 photos of voters and their MyKad.

SPR collected these photos as part of the MySPR Register website which was launched in 2019.
