BEHIND following France’s 4-1 win over Australia in their World Cup Group D opener on Wednesday, France manager Didier Deschamps hailed the destructive character of their man-of-the-match Kylian Mbappe.

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star scored a goal and provided an assist for Les Blues, who are on a mission to defend their title, to a valuable victory.

Mbappe became the second teenager after Pele in 1958 to score in the World Cup final as France beat Croatia to win the tournament in Russia four years ago.

At 23 years and 337 days, Mbappe is the youngest player to have scored five World Cup goals for France, and Deschamps expects him to continue to excel in Qatar.

“Kylian (Mbappe) has become one of the best players in the world and he feels very confident.

“You can see the way he plays. He is calm and focused,” said Deschamps.

In that action, Australia was first in front through Craig Goodwin.

However, Mbappe sparked a French revival in the first half as Adrien Rabiot and Olivier Giroud scored to put Les Bleus ahead of the game.

Mbappe put France comfortably in front with the third goal before setting up Giroud to complete the win in style for the Blues.

Deschamps also described Mbappe as being in top form at the moment and very ready to face the 2022 edition of the World Cup.

“He can always play as part of the team and it’s good for us. I have a lot of strikers, but Kylian is of course a brilliant one,” said Deschamps.
