Muhyiddin reiterated his position that he has enough support

SHAH ALAM – Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reiterated his position that he has enough support to form a new government thus allowing him to be appointed as the 10th Prime Minister on Monday.

He explained that the support did not only involve members of Parliament from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and independents but also other Dewan Rakyat members individually.

“God willing, tomorrow we will be able to present a sworn statement that we have a number of members of Parliament (supporting to form a government),” he said.

He said this when he was met after the meeting of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) at one of the hotels here on Sunday.

Meanwhile, asked about Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s denial that the party had negotiated with GPS to agree to form a government with PN and that the situation might put MPs from BN at risk who might support him.

Muhyiddin explained, The law related to banning members of Parliament does not affect members of the Dewan Rakyat because there is no obstacle for them to do so.

“It is true that they did not violate the provisions of the act (because) they did not leave the party but they individually (that is) members of Parliament came independently to give me support.

“So, it does not violate the party jumping act,” he explained.

On Sunday, Ahmad Zahid denied that his party ever negotiated with GPS to agree to form a government with PN.

The UMNO president also emphasized that there has been no negotiation with the PN so far that could mean an understanding of the establishment of a government with the coalition.

In this regard, he said, any member of Parliament who violates party instructions will result in the release of party membership including Parliament seats, in line with the law prohibiting members of the Dewan Rakyat from changing parties as stipulated under Article 49A of the Federal Constitution.
