No Malaysians were involved in the Cianjur earthquake

PUTRAJAYA – No Malaysians have been reported to be involved in the earthquake in West Java, so far.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its statement on Tuesday informed that the matter was confirmed by the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta.

“Malaysians who need consular assistance or have any further questions can contact the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta via 62 21 5224947 or 62 813 8081 3036 as well as [email protected],” said the ministry.

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale occurred at 1.21pm Monday local time in Cianjur district, West Java Province, Indonesia about 110 kilometers from Jakarta.

The death toll from the earthquake rose to 162 people while hundreds more were injured.

The Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil also confirmed that 13,000 residents are now taking shelter in temporary shelters after their homes were destroyed.
