KUANTAN – The police warned that the public should not disrupt the peace or cause annoyance to the people in this state.
Kuantan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu insisted that action under Section 504 of the Penal Code can be taken if any individual or party commits the act.
According to him, the warning was issued following a 40-second video circulating on social media showing a riot by a group of men at a premises used as the office of a political party here and pictures of two leaders of a political party can be seen in the video, on Wednesday.
“The result of the police investigation found that the video was a riot that happened on 23 May 2014 at a premise in Kuantan.
“A total of three police reports have been made regarding the incident and investigation papers have been opened by the police under Section 427 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
He believes that videos recorded by individuals or members of the public nine years ago have been re-transmitted to warm up the current political situation.
Strictly speaking, action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 will also be taken against those involved.
“Under this section provides a punishment of up to two years in prison or a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or both.
“Can be applied to any individual who makes the video viral,” he said.
In this regard, Wan Mohd Zahari advised all the community to stop spreading any video or any article in the form of speculation and not provide any benefit to the community.
