Petronas discovered oil in the Sépia field, Brazil

[KEMAS KINI] SUBSIDIARY of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), Petronas Petróleo Brasil Ltda (PPBL) announced its first oil discovery in well 4-BRSA-1386D-RJS in the Sépia presalt oil field.

The well is located in the prolific Santos Basin, about 250 kilometers (km) off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, at a depth of about 2,000 meters.

This significant discovery was made in the Sépia Joint Participation Area, covering the Sépia Transfer of Rights (ToR) contract (Petrobras, 100 percent) and the ToR Sépia Surplus Production Sharing Contract awarded to Petrobras (30 percent), TotalEnergies (28 percent) and PBBL (21 percent) ) with Pré-Sal Petróleo SA (PPSA) as manager.

PPBL and its consortium partners won the ToR Sépia Surplus Production Sharing Contract during the Second Brazil Transfer Surplus Bidding Round held in Rio de Janeiro in 2021.

Petronas Vice President of Exploration, Mohd Redhani Abdul Rahman said, his party is very excited about this discovery in one of the most prolific basins in the world.

“Petronas and partners will continue to work closely together, together with host governments, to unlock more value creation and achievements together.

“Petronas will also continue its decarbonisation efforts to sustainably develop the Sépia field, while strengthening our portfolio in the country. This is in line with our global growth strategy,” he said.
