SHAH ALAM – The Selangor government will hold discussions with Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan to suggest that the State Elections (PRN) can be held simultaneously next year, said Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
“The dissolution of state assemblies must be done simultaneously to ensure that the cost of holding PRN in all the states next year is not too high,” he told reporters at the Annex Building, Selangor State Assembly here, on Thursday.
Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan are under the administration of Pakatan Harapan (PH) while Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan are led by PAS.
The six states did not dissolve their respective DUNs to run simultaneously with the Parliamentary level in the 15th General Election (GE15) on 19 November.
According to Amirudin, the DUN base in the six states was not dissolved at the same time in the GE15 because there had been informal discussions between the six states about it.
He expects the PRN to be implemented after Aidilfitri next year but it depends on the situation at the federal government level and the weather.
“I can’t say the shadow (specific date of dissolution) but the possibility of reaching after Hari Raya is quite high. However, we will see and subject to discussions with other states,” he said. – Named
