COUNTING days before the World Cup kick-off, controversial player Cristiano Ronaldo may be sidelined for Portugal’s warm-up against Nigeria due to stomach aches.

The news was confirmed by the team’s coach, Fernando Santos.

Ronaldo in a recent interview criticized Manchester United that he has no respect for the coach, Erik ten Hag.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner did not train on Wednesday because of the pain.

“He suffered from ‘gastroenteritis’ and did not train today (Wednesday) for that reason.

“He is not ready (to face Nigeria) and is resting. As you know, gastritis has been the cause of many players being sidelined,” said Santos in Lisbon.

Once he recovers, Ronaldo will be fit to make his fifth appearance and possibly the last World Cup for himself.

Portugal are scheduled to open the tournament against Ghana on November 24 before facing Uruguay and South Korea.

Ronaldo and Portugal have never won a championship but managed to win the title at Euro 2016 and won the National League in 2019.
